We win by not losing every day.

There are two ways I see people try to build businesses.

One is the ambitious way. Big vision. Lofty goals. Creating something that doesn't exist. Changing the landscape of whatever space you're in.

The other way is much less glamorous. Just don't be bad.

So many products, especially in B2B, are shockingly subpar. Fundamentals are wrong. Basic things are broken. UX is careless. Reliability is an afterthought. Communication is sloppy. You don't need to be great to stand out. Just being average already puts you ahead.

That's what I mean by we win by not losing every day.

It's like Dota. The highest MMR players don't have insane win rates. It's usually 51-52%. They lose almost half their games. Yet they're at the top because they win points they were supposed to lose. They don't throw. They don't give away free fights.

Same thing with tennis. I remember Roger Federer saying he loses almost half the points he plays. If you look at the scores, it's always close. 6-7. 7-6. He's accepted that losing points is part of the game. The focus is on the few points everyone else gives up on.

Those points matter more than all the others.

Building a business feels the same. Things will go wrong. You'll lose half the battles. That's normal. The advantage comes from the few moments where you don't mess up. Where you don't take the trivial bad decision. Where you don't drop the ball.

Just not being bad gets you surprisingly far.
